Y2K LULLABY

She grew up in the valley of silicon
With a three-car garage and a pedicured lawn
Her cubicle was spattered with photos of the greats
Folks like Andy Grove and Michael Dell and, uh, Bill Gates
But now she screams betrayal; she's convinced her former heroes
Have brought on the apocalypse with a simple pair of zeroes
And as I plan my party for December 31st
She sings to me this cheerful verse:
Ev-er-y-thing's gonna end today
Y2K, Y2K
Life as we know it will fall away
Y2K, Y2K
Y2K!
She has this shelter in Montana with rifles on her shelves
She takes me there at night so no one sees us
She says we've got to get ready to defend ourselves
I say from who? Jesus?
You know, this place feels like the inside of a casket
Sometimes it's like everyone's going to Helena
- Handbasket
Ev-er-y-thing's gonna fail today
Y2K, Y2K
No groceries left at the IGA
Y2K, Y2K
Y2K!
I tell her I'm not so sure about this scare
If earth explodes, you know, why bother to prepare?
And it's hard to hear the threats anymore and keep a straight face
But I'm hoarding gold, just in case
Ev-er-y-thing's gonna quit today
Y2K, Y2K
Tell all your bugs to come out and play
Y2K, Y2K
Just go ahead, God, and make my day
Y2K, Y2K
I won't be traveling TWA
Y2K, Y2K
It's the end of the world but I feel OK
Y2K, Y2K
Beautiful, bright millennial day
Y2K, Y2K
The very last thing your PC will say
Is "Y2K, Y2K
Bye bye."
